The Rev. Mary G. Swann, Deacon

Rev. Mary Swann

We are greatly blessed to have a deacon serving at Light of Christ. The Rev. Mary Swann was ordained as a deacon in December 2006 in the Diocese of San Joaquin, where she served at St. James Anglican Church in Sonora, California. Besides her theological training, Mary is a retired Registered Nurse, has a Master’s degree in counseling from Old Dominion University, and has enjoyed a long career as a psychiatric nurse.

Before relocating to this area in early 2009, Mary was the Nurse Manager of a sixteen bed acute psychiatric unit of Tuolumne General Hospital in Sonora serving people with all types of mental illness. Before retiring from nursing, she worked on a part-time basis for Rappahannock Community College as a psychiatric nursing instructor in their professional nursing program.

Mary focuses on the following ministries: women’s ministry, ministry to groups of all ages within the congregation and the community, visitation and home communion, training and supervision, and many administrative functions. She co-facilitates a women’s home group which has grown through prayer, fellowship and Bible study. She also presents and assists in planning the programs for the Light of Christ women. She is active in discerning God’s will concerning the particular role Light of Christ can play in taking God’s love to the people of our community and beyond.

In her spare time, Mary likes to read, listen to music, spend time in nature and with friends. She has rediscovered a passion for ballroom dancing and spends most of her spare time commuting to Williamsburg to pursue this interest as well as competing in dance events.
