Kairos Ministry at Light of Christ

Kairos Prison Ministry shares Christ’s love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition of becoming productive citizens in their communities.

Buckingham Correctional Center is a state prison located on 968 acres outside the town of Dillwyn in Buckingham County, Virginia, about 60 miles west of Richmond. The weekends during which our team visits Buckingham consist of structured talks, meditations, and individual and group activities led by the volunteers – a short course in Christianity. It offers an invitation to live in a personal relationship with the living Christ to a group of 42 inmates.

Through talks, discussions and Chapel meditations prisoners learn that they are worthy of God’s love, light and grace. That no matter who they are or what they have done, God forgives them. The ultimate goal of Kairos is to build a Christian community to pray and fellowship together on a weekly basis by nurturing each other in their faith walk and providing accountability.

Twice each year the Light of Christ Church Kairos Ministry team carries this message of Christ's love, along with dozens and dozens of chocolate chip cookies prepared by parishioners. This ministry team prepares grocery bags with the necessary ingredients for about eight dozen cookies, and volunteers bake and return them to church to be loaded up to go with the team members to the prison.
